Tooth Sleuths Learn About Mammals and Their Eating Habits
Is it possible to know what an animal eats just by looking at its teeth?
Put your detective skills to use and find out with the help of the “Be A Tooth Sleuth” exhibit, at the Explorium of Lexington January 7 through February 29.
The exhibit, organized by the Purdue Agriculture Exhibit Design Center, teaches children that mammals are carnivores, herbivores or omnivores and that there are different types of teeth and feeding habits for each. Among its features are animal skulls, including a tiny weasel and a polar bear.
The four-sided display is designed to appeal to children of kindergarten age through fourth grade and their families. It contains components, such as a touch-screen game, for the “tooth sleuths” to test what they have learned about mammals from the exhibit. They also can look at their own teeth in the Tooth Sleuth mirror and to determine their eating category.

The Explorium, Lexington’s children’s museum, announces a new EyePlay™ interactive exhibit, Let’s Move. The interactive exhibit, which opened to the public November 8, combines intuitive human body motion with floor spaces. Children can move, hop, twist and dance, using their hands and feet to activate sounds and colorful graphics projected on the floor.
The exhibit was made possible by funding from the Explorium of Lexington and presenting sponsor Lexington Clinic Foundation and the Dr. James L. Stambaugh Fund. Two custom interactive programs were created with the funding to engage children in learning about the human eye.
The Let’s Move exhibit and EyePlay™ technology provide a revolutionary way to present captivating content to young audiences while engaging in fun, exciting and innovate ways. Children can enjoy endless hours of fun and smiles when they pop balloons, play the piano or challenge their friends to a game of virtual soccer. Let’s Move is the first of many new exhibits the Explorium plans to introduce. In addition, the Explorium also has exhibits on nutrition, homes, water, as well as, an open art studio, and even a bubble room.
